Raktha Kanneeru, a romantic entertainer directed by Sadhu Kokila and produced by Munirathna. The movie was a remake of Tamil film "Ratha Kanneer". Upendra, Abhirami and Ramya Krishnan are played the main lead roles along with Kumar Bangarappa, Jyothilakshmi, Doddanna, Arif Ali, Bank Janardhan, Sadhu Kokila, J. V. Somayajulu, Kota Srinivasa Rao, Sudhakar, Kallu Chidambaram are seen in supporting roles in this movie. The film was a typical Upendra's film, broke all opening box office records in Karnataka. It was the highest-grossing film of the year 2003. The film was followed by a semi-sequel titled "Katari Veera Surasundarangi" released in 2012.

1. Raktha Kanneeru was a remake of Ratha Kanner.

Yes, the film Raktha Kanneeru was a remake of Tamil movie Ratha Kanner, which released in 1954, directed by R. Krishnan and S. Panju. The screenplay was written by Tiruvarur K. Thangaraj, and the film features M. R. Radha in the lead role. It became a greatest hit in M. R. Radha's career. It was later remade as Raktha Kanneeru in 2003 in Kannada with Upendra and Ramya Krishna in the lead roles.

2. The movie was a massive Hit at the box-office with huge records.

After the release of RAKTHA KANNEERU, the movie broke many opening day box-office records during those days. The film grossed ₹1 Crore in it’s initial week just from “Bangalore”. By creating many records as such, the film was known to become one of the highest grossing films during 2003-04. The BKT distribution rights were sold at a record price of ₹1.6 Crore.

3. Amazing screenplay and Weighty dialogues.

Everyone were impressed with the quality of screenplay. The screenplay in the movie was like a new wave in Sandalwood. However the screenplay and the dialogues for the movie were sculptured by Upendra himself. The rebellious dialogues on the people’s beliefs and perspectives were loved by the audience.

Along with directing the film, Sadhu Kokila had also taken the responsibility of composing the music for the movie. The songs were well composed, had created a trend during those days. Even today people love to hear the songs of the same. Meanwhile, the album of this movie was one of the best selling albums of the year. And the audio cassettes were sold in a huge number.

Upendra, who is known for mind-blowing, out of the box dialogues, has given such dialogues for Raktha Kanneeru, which is still crawling on the tongue of Kannadigas.
